An earlier article in More Woodturning on turning wine stoppers got me thinking about collet chucks. I wondered if I could make one entirely out of wood. I thought this would be just an exercise to see if I could do it, but it surprised me with its usefulness. Although the All Wood Collet Chuck doesn't have the holding power and range of wooden jaws mounted in a scroll chuck, it does have adequate power for turning tops, wine stoppers, and the odd bit of dowel. The All Wood Collet Chuck also has the advantage of being much faster to mount on the lathe and to convert to different sizes. Another advantage is that it's virtually free.

1. Please proofreas machine spindle concertic with 3D body machine spindle before use.
2. Survey the length of L (X,Y axis)
(I) Moving (X,Y) axis, making the probe touch the edge of workpiece,when the red lamp lighten, also making CRT's (X,Y)axis to be "O",this is first point A.
(II) Moving (X,Y) axis to the other side of workpiece, and repeat step ( I ), this is second point B, now CRT appears the length and then deduct the test bar ball is L.

3. Survey the length of L (X,Y axis)
(I) When Z axis red lamp lighten, what indicate the H height is 5" or 120mm.
(II) Moving Z axis, making the porbe touch A plane, when the red lammp lighten, in the same time making CRT's Z axis to be   "O",get plane A.
(III) Moving Z axis to B plane, and repeat step ( II ) and get plane B, now CRT appears the height is H.

4. Survey internal and external the center of a circle.
(I) From 1-2 got  C1=d1+10/2 or C1=D2-10/2(as close as possible to center )
(II) Use C1 as an center vertical move 3-4 and got C1=d2+10/2 or C1=D2-10/2.
(III) Use C1 as an center,and parallel C1 5-6 got C1=d+10/2 or C=D-10/2.
(IV) C is center coordinate.
